Evelyn J. Herb, life-long resident Evelyn "Curly" HERB 1912-1990 D FOREST GROVE-Recitation of the Holy Rosary and a Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn J. “Curly” Herb, 78, Forest Grove, were held this morning. Mrs. Herb died March 26, 1990, at her home of causes related to age. Msgr. Edmund Vanderzanden of Scappoose and the Revs. James Crunican of Sheridan and Scott ! Vandehey of Eugene officiated at today's services at Visitation Roman Catholic Church in Verboort. Interment followed in Visitation Cemetery in Verboort. Mrs. Herb was born March 19, 1912, in Verboort, a daughter of William A. and Alice C. Evers VanDyke. She received her education at Visitation Grade School and had lived in the area her entire life. On May 17, 1938, she married Martin G. Herb in Verboort. They were approaching their 52nd wedding anniversary. They moved to the Hillside area of Forest Grove in 1944, where they farmed until 1964. They had lived in their present home since. Mrs. Herb played violin with the Nightingale Orchestra at dances in the area. She also sang with the orchestra, as well as singing at many weddings and funerals. Her hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping and going to garage sales. She was a member of Visitation Catholic Church, the Visitation Choir, the Catholic Order of Foresters and TOPS in Cornelius. Survivors include her husband, Martin G. Herb, Forest Grove; three daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Gary Vandehey, Cornelius, Floralee and Ed Stadelman, Forest Grove, and Nancy and Leo Snyder, Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers, Ervin VanDyke, and Stanley VanDyke bath 3
