Obituary

Viola E. Vandehey, 85, a resident of the Forest Grove community died Wednesday evening, September 28, 2011 at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro.

Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 Am on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Visitation Catholic Church; 4285 NW Visitation Rd. in Verboort.

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Mass held in the Parish Hall

Rite of Christian Burial and Vault interment will take place at Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort.

Viola was born on August 28, 1926 in Verboort, OR She was one of nine children born to William J. and Louise (VanDomelen) Vanderzanden. She was raised on the family farm in Verboort and attended school in Verboort.

She was united in marriage to Bernard “Bud” Vandehey on June 6, 1946 in Verboort, OR. Following their marriage they made their home in Banks, OR until 1951 when they moved to the Thatcher District on Hillside Rd. Bud died on July 30, 1982 and Viola continued to live at the family home until her recent health had forced her closer into town.

Viola was first and foremost a loving and devoted mother and wife. While tending to her growing family Viola had also worked outside the home picking the local crops. In her youth Viola had worked as a nurse’s aid at the original St Vincent Hospital in Portland.

Among her interest she enjoyed knitting, scrabble, cards and crossword puzzles. She also attended many garage sales, enjoyed visits from her many many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune fan and enjoyed her family time especially on Sunday afternoon’s when she would have them over for a chicken dinner.

She is preceded in death by her husband, two children; Linda Thompson and John Vandehey, and three siblings; Elmer, Bud Vanderzanden and Eva Yost. Survivors include her children and their spouses; Dan and Linda Vandehey of Cornelius, OR, Bill Vandehey and his companion; Lori Miller both of Banks, OR, Pam and Monte Daily of Charleston, SC, Jay Vandehey of Forest Grove, OR, Angie and Mike Anderson of Hillsboro, OR, Tim Vandehey of Cornelius, OR, Annie and Adam Thompson of Gales Creek, OR, six siblings; Dick Vanderzanden, Art Vanderzanden, Virginia Herinckx, Melitta Kadell, Agnes Richardson, 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The family suggests donations in Viola’s name to Visitation school Endowment fun.
