Obituary

Jeff was born on December 11th, 1914 on the family farm in Verboort, Oregon. He was one of 14 children born to Walter and Margaret (Joosten) Van Dyke. Jeff was raised on the family farm and attended Visitation Grade School and High School.

He was united in marriage to Eunice Marie Vandehey on November 29th, 1939 at Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort, Oregon. They made their home on the family farm in Verboort. Jeff and Eunice operated a dairy farm until 1976 when they retired. November 29th, 2004 marked Eunice and Jeff's 65th Wedding Anniversary.

Some of Jeff's hobbies and interests were deer, elk, antelope, caribou, turkey hunting, and fishing at East Lake. He enjoyed duck hunting and playing cards at “Harold's Club”. Horses were always a part of Jeff's life beginning with the farm, plowing, and working the fields, the Washington County Sheriff's Posse of which he was a charter member, and local horse shows. Later in his life, he enjoyed plowing contests, which he usually won.

Music was a big part of Jeff's life. He was involved in the Visitation Children's Choir from 1923 to 1928, until the ninth grade. He played the trumpet and was involved with several bands which include the following: Ivan Koberstein Band, Forest Grove City Band, Verboort Band, and the Nightingales Orchestra. From 1992 to 1993  he was the oldest member of the One More Time Around Again Marching Band. Jeff was the Visitation Church Choir director and tenor until he retired at the age of 80.

He was active in the Visitation Parish his entire life. At the age of 19, Jeff butchered the hog for the sausage made in his family's garage for the 1st annual Verboort Sausage & Kraut Dinner. For several years Jeff volunteered to smoke the sausage for the annual November dinner.

He enjoyed making wine and won awards at the Washington County fair for his efforts.

Jeff was close to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who enjoyed spending weekends and summers on the farm with him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, and six brothers: Ted, George, Bert Howard, Raymond and Joseph.
