Robert Henry Sohler, 75, a resident of the Cornelius community died May 2, 2011 at his home

Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Visitation Catholic Church; 4285 NW Visitation Rd. in Verboort.

Family and friends are invited to attend a reception following the Mass held at the Visitation Parish hall in Verboort.

Rite of Christian burial will take place at 1:30 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at the Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Verboort.

Robert was born on January 22, 1936 in Bethany, OR. He was one of eight children born to William and Barbara (Hillecke) Sohler. At a young age Robert lost his hearing and as a result he attended State of Oregon School for the Deaf. At the age of nine Robert and his family moved to Verboort settling on the farm which is now the Sunset Golf course. Robert graduated from the Oregon School of the Deaf in 1955.

He had worked in construction all of his life. He worked for BJ Johns Furniture in Portland for over 18 years. Following this Robert had worked in construction for the past 30 years including building pole barns, home construction and some renovation work.

Robert enjoyed working with his hands. He was a creative builder and enjoyed making furniture and fixing things around the house. He was also a history buff especially “The Red Baron” and other famous aviation heroes. He also enjoyed reading and traveling. He was an avid sports fan following Norte Dame.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two siblings; Marie Vandehey & Edward Sohler

Survivors include his son; Baron Sohler of Cornelius, OR, five siblings and their spouses; Pauline & John Vandehey of Hillsboro, OR, Madeline Turner of Hillsboro, OR, Willis Sohler of Gaston, OR, Ronald and Lynn Sohler of Mountaindale, OR, Sister Barbara Rose Sohler, SSMO of Beaverton, OR, and three grandchildren; Zachariah, Sassinak and Vangeline
