Obituary

CORNELIUS LEONARD "CON" BOOGAARD was born July 23, 1910 in Browns Valley, Minnesota, the son of the late George and Johanna (Ruys) Boogaard. He was raised and received his education in the Browns Valley community. Con was united in marriage to Alfreda Laura "Freda" Declerck on March 4, 1935 at Butler, Minnesota. They celebrated sixty years of marriage on the day of his passing. Following their marriage, they made their home in Butler until November of 1952 when they moved to Oregon, settling in the Verboort community, where they have resided for the past forty-three years. They spent the early years of marriage operating a dairy farm in Butler and after moving to Verboort, he worked in regional sawmills as a grader. In 1958, con went to work for Tektronix and spent most of the next twenty years with the grounds maintenance department. After his retirement in 1978, he enjoyed raising pigmy goats, gardening and woodworking, having been proud of the windmills he constructed and displayed in their front yard. For nearly forty years he raised chickens and sold eggs in Verboort. Mr. Boogaard also enjoyed square dancing, as they were members of the 4 N Ser's square dancing club for eleven years. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia Mary Boogaard; and his infant brother, Cornelius Boogaard. Mr. Boogaard died Saturday, March 4, 1995 at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro. He is survived by his wife, Alfreda L. "Freda" Boogaard of Verboort; eight children and their spouses, James D. and Vivienne Boogaard of Wadalba, New South Wales, Australia; Sister Janice Boogaard, S.S.M.O. of Camas, Washington; Beverly J. and Joseph Evers of Banks; Darlene M. and Charles Moore of Aloha; Margie A. and Walt Vandehey of Cornelius; Jerry J. and Lois Boogaard of Forest Grove; Joyce M. and Jerrome Hunter of Forest Grove; and Dr. Ronald G. and Marilyn Boogaard of Lebanon, Pennsylvania; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen M. Van Erp of Bad Axe, Michigan; Marie A. Van Erp of Perham, Minnesota; and Wilma J. and Carl Harrison of Hot Springs, Arkansas; and five brothers and sisters-in-law, Albert P. and Margaret Boogaard of Minneota, Minnesota; John M. and Rosella Boogaard of Osakis, Minnesota; Henry G. Boogaard of Alexandria, Minnesota; William A. and Evelyn Boogaard of Osakis, Minnesota; and Clarence and Yvonne Boogaard of Marshall, Minnesota. Also surviving are twenty-seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
