SUSAN J. DAVIS

Susan J. Davis, 75, a longtime resident of the Forest Grove community, died Monday morning, February 1, 2021 at her home.

SUSAN JEAN DAVIS was born on June 20, 1945 in Hillsboro, Oregon, the daughter of the late Rodrick Earl “Rod” Vanderzanden and Maxine (Feldt) Vanderzanden. She was raised and received her education in the Forest Grove community, having attended Visitation School in Verboort and Forest Grove High School, having been a graduate of the Class of 1963.

She was united in marriage to John Eugene Davis on May 30, 1963 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Forest Grove. Following their marriage, they made their home in the Forest Grove community, where Susan had resided since. They had built their home on the original Vanderzanden Homestead in 1964.

Susan was preceded in death by her husband, John, on February 27, 2006 in Hillsboro, after celebrating over forty-two years of marriage together.

In 1970, Susan became co-owner with her husband, John, of the family business, Stewart Stiles Truck Lines, Inc and NFC Norton Trucking Company. Over the years, the business grew considerably and had been located in Cornelius. “Parcel Packin Papa”, the logo for the business, was well known throughout the West Coast. They also co-owned “Papa’s Toys”, an extensive collections of cars, which they opened up to the public once a year, with the price of admission being a donation to Doernbecher Children Foundation.

Susan was an active member of the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort, the Cornelius Eagles Aerie #4177 and the Forest Grove Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. #2440.

She was a great supporter of many organizations including Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, OHSU/Tuality Community Hospital Cancer Center, Oregon Food Bank, Northwest Medical Teams, Sisters of the Road and Emanuel Children’s Hospital. Susan and John were sponsors of Concours d’Elegance Annual Car Show in Forest Grove and each summer, they sponsored family swim nights at the Forest Grove Aquatics Center.

Among her special interests, Susan lived for spending time with her family, especially her five grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, Rod and Maxine Vanderzanden.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Troy and Lea Davis, of Gaston, Oregon; her daughter, TimiSue Abbott, of Hillsboro, Oregon; her brother and sister-in-law, Kerry and Eldena Vanderzanden, of Forest Grove, Oregon and her sister and brother-in-law, Dana and Dan Wood, of Portland, Oregon.

Also surviving are her five grandchildren, Autumn Davis, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Breanne Davis, of Vancouver, Washington; Carmel Nichol and her husband, Bryan, of Forest Grove, Oregon; Daymon Abbott and his wife, Sarah, of Hillsboro, Oregon and Dallas Abbott and his wife, Sarah, of Rapid City, South Dakota and several nieces and nephews.

The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to Doernbecher Children Foundation, 1121 S.W. Salmon Street, #100, Portland, Oregon 97205 or to Visitation Catholic Church, 4285 N.W. Visitation Road, Forest Grove, Oregon 97116, in her memory.
