Melita Henriette Kadell, 87, a resident of the Gaston community passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at her home.

 

 

Melita was born on November 10, 1928 in Verboort, OR. She was one of nine children born to William and Louise (Vandomelen) Vandezanden. She was raised on the family farm in Verboort and attended Visitation Grade School and Verboort High School.

 

She met her husband, Richard Kadell through mutual friends. They were married on September 25, 1946 in Verboort. Following their marriage they followed Richard's work as a railroad man and had lived in Banks, Scofield, Timber, McMinnville, Hillsboro, Cornelius, and Forest Grove. On October 10, 1994 Richard passed away and two years later Melita moved to Gaston to be closer to her daughter; Luann.

 

Melita was a devoted and loving mother to her seven children; Donna, Richard, Michael, Vernon, Luann, Joann and Roger. She also worked outside the home, sometimes as a field hand for several local farmers including Fritz Peters and Vanderzanden farms. She also worked for Tektronix for over 17 years. She enjoyed visiting the casino, playing scrabble and baking. She loved the outdoors enjoying gardening hunting and spending time with her many grandchildren.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son; Michael, her siblings; Erin Vanderzanden, Elmer Vanderzanden, Viola Vandehey and Evan Yost

 

She is survived by her six children; Donna Vandehey of Forest Grove, Richard Kadell Jr. of Forest Grove, Vernon Kadell of Milwaukie, Luann Mc Loud of Gaston, Joann Kendall of Cornelius, and Roger Kadell of St Helens, her siblings; Virginia Heyndericks of Mt Angel, Richard Vanderzanden of Forest Grove, Agnes Richardson of Elma, WA, Arthur Vanderzanden of Verboort plus twenty three grandchildren, thirty eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

 

The family suggest donations in Melita's name to the Visitation School Building Fund
