Obituary

Robert "Bob" McGrotty, 90, a resident of the Banks community passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019 at his home.

Bob was born on May 13, 1929 in Seattle WA. He was the only child born to Theodore and Cecelia (Michaud) McGrotty. He was raised primarily in Portland OR and attended Benson High School graduating with the Class of 47. He then attended PSU and attained a Bachelor's Degree.

He served his country in the US Army in Germany in the early 1950's. He served with the 4th Armored Calvary for two years and was honorably discharged in 1952 as a Cpl.

Bob met his wife, Rosemary Forbis, through mutual friends they soon began dating and then married on February 10, 1950 in Portland. They made their first home in Aloha and had five daughters; Catherine, Dianne, Betty, Alice and Roberta. They moved to Banks on the farm in 1962. They later divorced in 1972. Bob met Patricia Anne (Norton) Stahlnecker through mutual friends and they married on April 30, 1982 in Banks. They made their home on Bob's property in Banks until Patricia's passing on October of 2009.

Bob was a mechanic all of his life, he worked for the City of Portland in the water district and serviced all of the City of Portland's police and water works vehicles. He retired at the age of 58 and opened his own repair business working to help local farmers and loggers. Bob's passions were always with cars and motorcycles. He enjoyed racing both in his life and had only quit at the age of 85. He also enjoyed volunteering at his church, working on things around the house, gardening, chopping wood and was a great steward to his property. He enjoyed the outdoors and camping. He taught all of his daughters how to fix cars, "If you want to drive you have to learn how to fix it." He also loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren very much.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife Patricia, his parents, two grandchildren; Christine and Jeanine and a great granddaughter; Haylie.

He is survived by his five daughters and their spouses; Catherine Childers of Tigard, Dianne McGrotty of Tigard, Betty and Bob Vandecoevering of Verboort, Alice and Erik Losli of Troutdale, Roberta McGrotty and her companion Mike Leihevet both of Beaverton. Twelve grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.
