Obituary

JOHN EUGENE DAVIS was born September 20, 1941 in Portland, Oregon, the son of Charlie and Virginia (Benson) Davis. He was raised in Beaverton and Cherry Grove. John graduated from Forest Grove High School, Class of 1959. Following high school, John attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, where he majored in Psychology.
While in high school, John was a member of the Air National Guard. John was a Veteran of the Vietnam Era, having served in the United States Navy until receiving his Honorable Discharge on September 19, 1962.
John was united in marriage to Susan J. Vanderzanden on May 30, 1963 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Forest Grove. Following their marriage they have made their home in the Forest Grove community. John and Susan celebrated their 42" Wedding Anniversary this past May.
In 1970, John became co-owner with his wife, Susan, of the family business, Stewart Stiles Truck Line, Inc. Over the years, the business has grown considerably and currently is located in Cornelius. “Parcel Packin Papa”, the logo for the business, is well known throughout the West Coast. John also co-owned along with his wife, Susan, “Papa's Toys”, his extensive collection of cars, which he opened up to the public once a year, with the price of admission being a donation to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
John was an active member of the Visitation Catholic Church in Verboort, the Cornelius Eagles Aerie #4177, and the Forest Grove Elk's Lodge B.P.O.E. #2440, having served as Exalted Ruler in 1981-82. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Washington Post #2 in Forest Grove.
He was a great supporter of many organizations including Doernbecher Children's Hospital, OHSU/Tuality Community Hospital Cancer Center, Oregon Food Bank, Northwest Medical Teams, Sisters of the Road, and Emanuel Children's Hospital. John was a sponsor of the annual Concours d'Elegance car show in Forest Grove and each summer, John sponsored family swim nights at the Forest Grove Aquatics Center.
John's love was for kids and cars. He loved his family and always enjoyed spending time with his five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Virginia Davis.
John passed away February 27, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Susan J. Davis, of the family home in Forest Grove; a son and daughterin-law, Troy E. and Lea C. Davis of Gaston; a daughter and son-in-law, TimiSue and Bruce W. Abbott of Hillsboro; his mother-in-law, Maxine Vanderzanden of Forest Grove; and five grandchildren, Autumn, Breanne and Carmel Davis all of Gaston; and Daymon and Dallas Abbott both of Hillsboro.
