Cooking Suggestions for your Verboort Sausage

OVEN:
Preheat oven to 325 degrees.

Place sausage in a baking dish with a small amount of water to cover the bottom of the pan, about 1/3” deep.  You can either cover the sausage or leave uncovered, but monitor the baking process so the sausage does not burn dry. Add water if necessary.

Bake for 30 - 45 minutes.  The sausage will appear somewhat brighter and darker in color, this is a good indication it is cooked.

This is the way it is cooked the day of the Verboort Dinner

FRY PAN:

Place sausage in a fry pan with a small amount of water covering the bottom of the pan. (~1/3”)  Cover the pan and place on a Med-High burner and simmer 10- 15 minutes.  Rotate the sausage so the top portion is now on the bottom of the fry pan (if needed, add small amounts of water to keep the sausage from running dry).   Simmer an additional 10 - 15 minutes.

Cut into serving portions and place on platter next to our special Dutch Verboort Sauerkraut (cooked separately from the sausage).

Enjoy!

One of our guests suggests that substituting your favorite beer for the water gives the sausage a great taste.
Give it a try next time  you are looking for a change of pace.
